International Observe the Moon Night – September 18

September 18, 2010 is the first annual International Observe the Moon Night. The iOS device user can observe the nearest neighbours around the Moon. Some free application like Moon Globe is also available which allow you to explore the lunar service in detail tonight, or any night.

InOMN builds on NASA’s first celebration of these historic missions during the International Year of Astronomy 2009. Now, Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) is partnering with NASA missions and centers, along with other institutions, to bring the excitement of observing and learning about Earth’s closest neighbor in space to the worldwide public – putting the “International” into InOMN.

Last year’s events celebrated the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter’s successful orbit insertion around the Moon and the Goddard Center hosted an event called “We’re at the Moon!” while NASA Ames had a “National Observe the Moon Night.”

Join the celebration. Get others looking up and seeing the Moon…in a whole new light!
