FlyNano Electric Microlight Aircraft

Finnish aeronautical engineer Aki Suokas have designed a single-seat super-lightweight microlight aircraft, with the option for an all-electric power plant dubbed as FlyNano. The FlyNano has several distinctive features. The body of the plane is made of highly advanced carbon fiber composite, which is one of the principal rationale behind the plane remaining lightweight at about 70 kgs and can land and take off easily on water.

Three variants are available: a 20kW electric-only version, and petrol-engined 24 bhp and 35 bhp models, the latter proposed as a racing version. The Flynano tops out at over 140 km/h, with a service ceiling of 3 km. If you think that’s remarkable, the most expensive of the three variants ex-factory and ex-VAT is just EUR 27,000 (US$39,000) and deliveries begin three months from now.

The Fly Nano’s wingspan is nearly 5 meters, nose to tail length of 3.5 m, and height 1.3 m. Its maximum take off weight is 200 Kg. Powered by the 20kw electrically powered engine, FlyNano’s true airspeed is about 140 kmh at 75% power with a theoretical operational distance of 70 km.
Weighing under the ceiling of 70kgs, the true power of the Fly Nano is its independence from license requirements and red-tapism. Therefore, without luggage and co-passengers it gives an instant access to the blue skies and freedom underneath the wings. Furthermore, to dissuade others from registering any complaint against you, the plane is empowered with low speed torque and minimal vibration of the electric motor. This manages the low-speed four-blade prop to remain almost like a soundless whisper in the wind. The makers of the plane have successfully brought about their dream plane to every man who wants to “fly like a free bird”.

Offered at a price range from € 25,000 – 27,000 (US$39,000) with an optional trailer/storage box at € 5,300 (US$7,700), it is a wise cost-performance deal. There is also on offer a transferable buy option to win a place in the 2011 delivery queue at EUR 900 (US$1300).

Thanks
