Twin brothers and Brazilian artists Octavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, known together as Os Gemeos, have turned many things into a remarkable one. Lately, the duos have turned 70 ft Silos into colorful giants.
This is their biggest project to date and their first in Canada. The mural, which is part of the Vancouver Biennale, depicts six vividly colored 70 foot (23 meter) tall characters. The six silos are wrapped all the way around, giving it a total area of 23,500 square feet (7,200 sq meters).
According to OSGEMEOS, “The first challenge of this project was to find a location that would fit with our idea. We did not want a conventional two-dimensional wall that we had done before – we wanted something different, special and unique. The Biennale has a strong connection with sculpture, so we decided to find a place where the painting can be transformed, creating a dialogue between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds. Another aim of this project is to bring new characters to Vancouver while sharing perspectives and cultures. The connection between water and land on Granville Island also had a lot to do with the choice of location – for us, the water acts as a vein, symbolizing life, and it is very present in our work.”
The location attracts 10.5 million visitors a year from around the globe, so the mural is destined to become one of the most recognizable and iconic works of public art anywhere in the world. Here are some images of this project.
The twin brothers took almost the a month to finish the piece – the grandest one of their career so far.
However, the twin brothers have targeted to raise $20,000CAD by September 21, 2014 (11:59pm PT) through Indiegogo to complete their project in their way, but as of writing, the team has already gathered $60,073CAD, keeping 11 days left. For more details, you may hit the links below.
