AMD and ARM are two giants of the tech industry. And the two have now announced their plans of collaborating so that they can speed up the process of adoption of end-to-end, open security system which is based on ARM’s TrustZone technology. The collaboration is probably going to procure a number of hardware products to this end.
According to an AMD spokesperson, through this collaboration AMD has plans of using ARM’s Cortex-A5 chip featuring TrustZone technology to create a platform security processor.
Such a hardware would feature architectures from both ARM and AMD and would put this hardware directly in line with industry standard security platform. This would also enable the creation of a broader ecosystem support for this platform.
According to an AMD executive, “As technology becomes more important to our everyday lives, security needs to be present in every single device. The challenge that the industry faces is how to make this a reality.”
He further stated, “Through this technology partnership with AMD, and the broadening of the ARM TrustZone technology ecosystem, we’re making another important step towards a solution. The aim is to make security accessible and consistent for consumers and business users across all computing devices.”
The move is going to profit both companies greatly in that it will help them compete the chief of the chip industry, Intel. AMD may have plans of getting technology support from ARM to ship out superior hardware in an attempt to counter Intel’s latest releases.
