Apple’s patent filings provide a glimpse into the past, present, and maybe future of its products and how they work. On last Thursday, the US Patent And Trademark Office published that Apple has patented auto-correct functionality, GarageBand and camera imaging technology.
Last Thursday, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office revealed that Apple has patented three new apps where the first one describes new virtual keyboard functionality, the second one delves into mobile optics and the third one would seem to patenting GarageBand itself.
Apple’s auto-correct method in iOS and OS X will fix incorrectly spelled words by looking at the fixed QWERTY keyboard layout. For example, if you type by mistake “snafi”, the auto-correct engine will suggest the correct word as “snafu”. Besides, Apple’s proposed implementation adds keystroke timing. It means, if you type on mobile devices speedily and you typed a wrong word like “theere”, it promptly suggests the correct word as “there”.
Apple has also moved to patent its music recorder and virtual instrument player – GarageBand. Apple patented the GarageBand as “Musical Systems and Methods”. The patent specifically provides details of the GarageBand user interface.
Apple’s third patent camera tech describes a device with dual image sensors. One for a black-and-white camera and the another for a color camera. Images and data from both sensors could be combined to create a resulting image. For details, head over to Wired.
