Satya Nadella Appointed As The New CEO Of Microsoft

Microsoft has attracted quite a few rumors and estimations in the past few days while the company busily searched for a new CEO. It would appear that Satya Nadella has finally been appointed as the new CEO of the company.

Satya Nadella

Nadella is not new to Microsoft and has been around at the company for more than two decades. Before appointed as the new CEO, Nadella had been the Executive Vice President of Enterprise and Cloud. He is credited as being a key figure in moving the company towards cloud-based services at just the right time and positioning Microsoft’s products and services around the strategy.

Nadella’s ‘acceptance email’, sent out to fellow Microsoft employees, is quite telling about where the company is headed in the coming days. According to him, cloud and mobile are going to be Microsoft’s key focuses in the immediate future.

In his own words, “I believe over the next decade computing will become even more ubiquitous and intelligence will become ambient. The coevolution of software and new hardware form factors will intermediate and digitize — many of the things we do and experience in business, life and our world. This will be made possible by an ever-growing network of connected devices, incredible computing capacity from the cloud, insights from big data, and intelligence from machine learning.”

While this is pretty much the most important bit of news from Microsoft, another very significant announcement is that Bill Gates is joining the company as ‘Founder and Technology Advisor.’ This hints that Gates is giving up his passive indifference to Microsoft’s recent developments and will be more actively involved in the company’s future.
