Yahoo! Abandons 10 Mobile Apps

Yahoo! has been into somewhat of a trouble of late. While there is not anything clearly wrong with the search giant, it has been on a steady decline, showing no remarkable progress in the ever-changing realm of internet. This decline is manifest in yet another of Yahoo!’s announcement in which it said that it is abandoning ten mobile apps for now. These comprise of apps for iPad, Android, iPhone and BlackBerry devices. The company says that it will now be working with a ‘mobile-first mindset.’

The list of the apps that have been officially abandoned by Yahoo! are:
Yahoo! Meme (iPad and iPhone)

Yahoo! Mim (iPad)

Yahoo! Answers (Android)

Yahoo! AppSpot (Android and iPhone)

Yahoo! Deals (iPhone)

Yahoo! Finance (BlackBerry)

Yahoo! Movies (Android)

Yahoo! News (Android)

Yahoo! Shopping (iPhone)

Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search (iPad and iPhone)

Yahoo! didn’t give any particular reasons why it shut down all these apps. Rather, it said in the statement it will move forward with a ‘mobile-first mindset.’ This doesn’t really make it clear what Yahoo! means by this.

However, we can rest assured that Yahoo! will now concentrate on domains which are it’s forte – it’s Mail and Messenger. Yahoo! still stands a real chance in these domains and if it introduces adequate innovation, it may still get along pretty nicely through 2012.
