NBC is taking a major turn on its policy when it comes to live streaming Olympics. This is because in 2008, NBC wouldn’t stream important Olympic events on internet to keep its TV ratings high. This year, NBC has decided to stream virtually all Olympic sports live through its internet stream. That is surely great news for internet users.
Last year, the problem with NBC’s policy was that in 2008, users weren’t able to view the Olympics events until hours late since NBC couldn’t stream all events live. This year, this is not going to be the case.
According to the vice president and general manager of NBC Sports Digital Media, Rick Cordella, “Whatever is on schedule that day, if cameras are on it, we’ll stream it. The hot topic is always, ‘Why don’t you show all your sports live?’ We wanted to take care of that.”
However, since NBC still has to take care of its stake in TV, it won’t be archiving the live transmission on internet. This means that if you catch an event live through NBC’s live stream, that is well and good. However, if you miss it, you won’t be able to view it online again.
Rather, you will either have to watch for the TV transmission of that event or wait until late when NBC may perhaps decide to finally archive the transmission online.
