Microsoft Releases Xbox SmartGlass SDK For Developers

At the annual gaming show, E3, Microsoft had unveiled Xbox SmartGlass. It is essentially a technology that lets the user play game, uninterrupted, when shifting from his Xbox to a Windows 8 device. It is aimed at providing a seamless gaming and entertainment experience to the user across multiple devices. The good news for developers is that Microsoft has now released the SDK of Xbox SmartGlass.

So why should the release of this SDK be such a big deal for the developers? For a start, with the help of this SDK, developers are able to lay their hands on all the tools that they need to integrate SmartGlass into their games as well as apps.

The SDK is available for download here and includes the Xbox SmartGlass Studio, with the help of which developers will be able to create SmartGlass actions; SmartGlass JavaScript Library which contains device APIs which will ensure that users are able to have a consistent experience across multiple devices; and finally, sample code.

The best thing about SmartGlass is that not only can you push your content from Xbox to your Windows Phone devices, you can also do the opposite. For iOS and Android users, the good news is that Microsoft has plans of launching apps for both platforms. This new technology brings to table a whole lot of possibilities for Microsoft’s entertainment hub, Xbox. The big question is, how well will the developers be able to make use of these possibilities.
