The Exquisite Corpse is a fairly popular game. In this game, every person has to create a few lines based on the last person’s sentence. The paper is circulated around in circles and in this way, a writing is created through the collaboration of multiple people. Based on this concept, Google is working on a project which is called ‘The Exquisite Forest.’
What is the project about?
‘The Exquisite Forest’ is simply a video art project. Google is collaborating with London’s Tate Modern Art Gallery in working on this project. The project works by allowing the participants to create a few frames of their own animation or video, building on the work of the previous artist. This, in turn, creates a very interactive and creative video experience.
To start the project, seven renowned artists have created ‘seed’ animations from which other participants can continue. The project is called Forest simply because anyone can add a new dimension to these seed animations and create a new tree or simply add clips to an existing branch.
Who can participate?
Virtually, anyone with a good flair for creating videos can participate. You can simply go to the project’s official website and register yourself. Once you register yourself, you can see the different timelines depicting different bits of videos that has been added by other people. Once you click on any of the ‘leaf’, you can view all the video clips that lead to it.
To pitch in with your own contribution, all you have to do is create a few frames of your own with the help of built-in tools available on the website.
The best thing is that the whole project is also being showcased at the Tate Modern’s interactive installation in London. If you happen to be around, you can go check it out on July 23.
