The long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will roll out to Sprint’s Galaxy S III users, beginning today. The carrier announced that the upgrade was coming Thursday, October 25th.
The Samsung Galaxy S III in North America has been held to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich since its release earlier this year. With Sprint’s announcement, they will be the lone carrier offering the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. The build of Sprint’s upgrade is labeled L710VPLJ7.
When Android Jelly Bean will be available on other major U.S. carriers is a huge question — AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular users are still running on Android 4.0.
To update your Galaxy S III unit you can do so over-the-air right now. Just visit your device’s settings panel and scroll down to the bottom until you see “About device.” That’s when you can tap “Software Update” to check for the update.
Jelly Bean isn’t a huge update, but it does bring a few nifty features — including photo filters, “Easy Mode” guidance, and NFC accessory support. Furthermore you may enjoy Google Now, an improved version of the old voice, navigation, and information system.
