Apple is gradually expanding the number of languages Siri supports. Whereas the voice-based personal assistant already supports a handful of languages, Apple is apparently trying to roll out Siri support for Arabic, Dutch and a number of other languages.
This has been hinted by a recent job listing posted at Apple’s online jobs portal. The listing specifically seeks out such candidates who wish to work with Apple on a six-month internship program.
The primary key qualification for the position is that the candidate should be ‘Native or fluent in Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Korean, Norwegian, Swedish and fluent in English.’
Siri is already available for French, English, Korean and Mandarin. However, it seems that Apple may be planning on enhancing the support for these languages by recognizing more dialects of each.
What makes it definite that Apple is indeed looking for the new interns to enhance the profile of languages supported by Siri is the fact that the job listing includes ‘Join the team responsible for delivering Siri in different parts of the world for an exciting 6 months internship in Cupertino, California.’
The job listing was posted on November 13, so we can assume that within a month, Apple will have the required candidates and we may soon see support for Arabic, Dutch and other new languages roll out for Siri.
