Microsoft Office is the most used productivity application suite worldwide. The economics of using Microsoft Office suites by home users is very much different from organizations. Keeping that in mind, software giant Microsoft has reinvented its business model for Office suites. The software giant has begun selling year-around subscriptions for Office 365 Home Premium for Mac and PC, a cloud-based version of its office suite programs from January 29.
The Office 365 Home Premium features Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Publisher. Office 365 Home Premium also comes with 20GB of cloud storage in SkyDrive and 60 minutes of worldwide calling through Skype per month. The service can hook up with up to five devices including desktops, tablets and laptops, and will receive automatic updates since it’s cloud-based. The Office 365 Home Premium costs $99.99 per year, means $8.34 per month.
Microsoft has also launched Office 365 University for college or university students, faculty and staff at a price of just US$79.99 for a four-year subscription. Microsoft is set to release Office 365 for businesses globally with new capabilities on February 27.
