The smartwatch race has already begun and in the arena of popular tech, Samsung has sounded the bugle with its Galaxy Gear. It’s only a matter of time before other tech companies join the fray. A patent recently awarded to Nokia hints that the company may be readying a multi-screen smartwatch of its own.
The patent awarded to Nokia envisions a device which wraps around your wrist, pretty much like a smartwatch, yet features multiple displays. Apparently, the function of these different displays is to let you use multiple apps at the same time.
You can decide which apps you want to run on which of these displays. For instance, you can choose to have your calendar displayed on one display, the email on the second screen and so on. However, from the looks of it, such a smartwatch may turn out to be a tad bit bulky, compared to other single-display smartwatches such as the Galaxy Gear.
For now, this is only a possible smartwatch design that Nokia is exploring. However, many have cited the contention that multiple apps can easily be run on a single display by providing a swift method of switching apps. Moreover, there have been rumors that Apple may also oust an ‘iWatch’ of its own in the coming days. The company may possibly do so at the Oct 22 event where it originally intends to unveil the new iPad.
At the end of the day, any company which aims to make a popular smartwatch will need to find a good balance between bulkiness, functionality and the beauty of the OS running atop it.

This has got to be the dorkiest design ever…
Will they find even one person who’d risk getting caught with that abomination strapped to his wrist?
The real question here is: what inebriated manager signed off on this? How was it whisked past the design department and the marketing guys without protest?
