PlayStation gamers finding their Network unresponsive to their login attempts, the outage of Sony’s PlayStation Network and Qriocity services is currently on its third day and there are still no signs when the service might be back and running again.The PlayStation Network or PSN is a free platform service for online gaming for both the PS3 and the PS2. It is also where Sony sells games and other content to console and handheld owners. Qriocity is an online service for Sony’s networked consumer electronics products that offers music and video content.Users of the service were greeted with error messages when they attempted to sign in their accounts on Thursday. According to Sony at that time, the company was looking into the problem.Later Sony said it would take a day or two for the service to come back online. Howerver, 48 hours after the initial problems, it posted a message on its Japanese website claiming “external factors,” as the cause of the outage.Without hinting when the service could return, the company posted some details about the problem on its blog.
“An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th,” the post said.Gamers worldwide are now reacting to the inability to play online games with the gaming community looking for answers in gaming websites and forums. PS3‘s networked gaming relies on the PlayStation Network.Contrary to Sony’s hinting, Anonymous had said it has nothing to do with the current problems.In a posting titled “For Once We Didn’t Do It,” the group said its core group had not targeted Sony or the PlayStation Network, but left open the possibility that individuals from the group might be responsible.According to the statement, “While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it.”Anonymous accused Sony of taking advantage of previous attacks on its network to explain an internal problem with company servers.In March Anonymous took down the PlayStation Network to start “Operation Sony,” a campaign meant to cripple Sony for its recent lawsuits against PS3 hackers.
