MOG, with its share of 500,000 subscribers, has emerged as a major player in the realm of digital music. Although the company hasn’t revealed how many of these are paid subscribers, it sure is a success. Now, rumors are abound that HTC’s unit, Beats is on the verge of sealing a deal with MOG and buying the company. This is expected to happen, and be announced, within the next fortnight.
According to reports, Beats have been in discussion with MOG for quite some time now. Officials from both companies have declined to make a comment about the prospective deal and are shush about it. However, according to analysts, if a deal does happen it will most probably rake in more than $33 million.
This estimate is derived from the fact that MOG has raised some $33 million from investors and if the company is handed over to Beats, it sure will be given for more than $33 million. Beats has recently been trying to get a stronger foothold. It was integrated into Facebook the last fall and claims that since then, it has been tried by 5,000 users daily on the social network.
If indeed Beats is successfully able to seal the deal regarding MOG, HTC may then try to offer the service on its Android smartphone devices. HTC has long been trying to offer something different, something additional on its handsets so as to stand it apart from the multitude of other Android vendors. A music streaming service like MOG can be just the defining feature which may let HTC have an upper hand.
