Microsoft Announces SmartGlass For Xbox, Allow AirPlay-Like Streaming To Other Devices

Apple’s AirPlay feature has long been touted as a very useful feature for iOS and Mac users. However, it seems that life is about to get as good for Xbox users too. We have been hearing that Microsoft will also unveil a similar feature and now the company has finally lived up to these hopes, announcing ‘SmartGlass’ for Xbox.

The feature is quite the same as AirPlay. For instance, during the E3 keynote speech, Microsoft demonstrated that users will be able to view movies across a number of devices seamlessly. You can simply ‘shift’ devices while watching a movie. Say you were watching it on your PC and then wanted to view it on your smartphone, with SmartGlass, you will be able to do so.

Moreover, the company will also be adding cool facts and info about, say, a movie that you are watching. This much showed that the TV-entertainment on Xbox will become really portable with the help of SmartGlass.

However, this effect will also trickle into the realm of Xbox gaming. Microsoft also demonstrated this, showing how players can interact in a far better way with the game with the help of SmartGlass.

Microsoft has been calling keyboard as something that doesn’t belong in the living room. And it has now proposed that users can surf the web on Xbox all the while using their smartphones as the keypads. This can be accomplished, again, through SmartGlass and with the help of voice commands that are supported on Xbox. This way, when using the web, users will be able to zoom, tap to click and make use of a number of other gestures.

SmartGlass is compatible and works with iOS, Android and Windows Phone device, which essentially means that you can port your content to any other tablet or smartphone.
