Avid PlayStation gamers have long waited for Sony to come up with its next-generation gaming console. It now seems that the wait is finally over. Sony has rolled out invitations for a February 20th PlayStation-related event which, the Wall Street Journal has confirmed, is going to include the unveiling of the next PlayStation.
Calling this event PlayStation Meeting 2013, Sony claims that it will essentially allow us to ‘see the future.’ We’re sure the company is throwing around the term to describe its next PlayStation which, if the hype is as good as the new hardware, may come with some significantly revamped specifications.
To pique our interest further, Sony has also posted a video teaser with the event announcement. The video divulges barely anything about the upcoming game console; rather, dwells more on the abstract. However, we are still very excited since this would mark the first mainstream game console launch of the year 2013.
If indeed Sony lives up to the expectations and lifts the curtain off next-generation PlayStation on February 20th, that would give it a significant edge over Microsoft. In launching Xbox 360, Microsoft was able to snatch a huge share of the market before Sony could come up with its own console. The delayed launch certainly didn’t sit well with the company.
So by beating Microsoft to the launch of its next-generation console, Sony can actually gain some advantage over the Xbox platform. However, much of that will depend on the kind of hardware packed by the upcoming PlayStation.
