Concerns Rising Over The Health Of Google CEO – Larry Page

During the recent stockholders’ meeting of Google which culminated in a decision in the favor of a stock split, one noticeable person was missing – Larry Page. He was not present at the meeting and Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt stated that this was due to his health condition. It was said that Page has lost his voice and is recovering.

However, what was even more intriguing was the fact that according to Google, Larry Page will not be present at the Google I/O Developer conference due next week. The conference is a very significant event for Google since it is being expected that it is going to unveil a Nexus tablet of its own and will also release the next version of Android, named Jelly Bean 4.1.

While Google seems to suggest Page is running a minor health problem, analysts have speculated that the company may be downplaying the actual case so as not to trigger concern.

According to Doug Anmuth, who is an analyst with JP Morgan, “Co-founder and CEO Larry Page was not present at the shareholder meeting. Google indicated that he had lost his voice and was unable to speak at the meeting, and also that he would not be speaking at next week’s Google I/O developer conference or the company’s 2Q earnings call.”

Google had also stated earlier that Page won’t be attending the second-quarter earnings call in July. This, Anmuth says, is rather odd since July is still a while away. Moreover, Page has been absent from his Google+ account ever since May 25, so his health problem may actually be more serious than Google would want to admit.
