Over the past years, we’ve seen online-shopping grew at an extraordinary rate. One of the prime factors to win in the game is to deliver the packages in the least possible time. Typically, consumers have the option to select from overnight delivery, 2-day express delivery, or typical 2-week deliver options. Now throughout the United States, companies such as eBay and Wal-Mart have begun testing of same-day expedited delivery.
There aren’t many companies on the planet offering same-day delivery service. Marketplace giant, Amazon.com, has offered same-day delivery in select markets for a few months now but their management doesn’t “really see a way to do same day delivery on a broad scale economically.”
eBay’s Method
The online auction site eBay’s same-day delivery service has recently launched in San Francisco. The service will be called “eBay Now” and will offer bay-area bidders the option to order products and receive them on their doorstep on the same day.
With eBay Now, you’ll be bidding on products that local merchants sell and once a purchase has been made, an agent from the company will give you a call to arrange shipping. The flat-fee currently is $5.00 per shipment.
Wal-Mart’s Method
Wal-Mart announced their “Wal-Mart To Go” same-day delivery option earlier this month in the Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Jose, and San Francisco areas. Customers just need to place an order on Wal-Mart’s website before 12:00 PM local time and you’ll be able to choose a 4-hour delivery window.
This service is offered by Wal-Mart for a flat-fee of $10 per order and only applies to specific products mentioned on the retailer’s website. A UPS delivery truck will drop of your merchandise later during the same-day.
