Mars One On Indiegogo: Now You Could Be Part Of The First Human Mission To Mars

Remember we reported about Mars One – the one way mission to Mars? Well, the Netherlands-based startup Mars One wants to set the first human colony on Mars. Earlier, the company received more than 200,000 applications for its Mars One mission, and now the company has launched a crowd funding campaign for that mission.

When Mars One announced its one way Mars One mission, people became very much interested in this mission and started to file their video application for a one way ticket to Mars. The application receiving period was nineteen-week long, and within two weeks, the company received more than 200,000 applications from 120 countries for Mars One mission. The company estimated that by the end of nineteenth week, they would receive a total of minimum half a million applicants.

On the other side, the applicant selection process was a bit different. During applying for Mars One mission, each applicant were instructed to show enough motivation, good sense of humor, nerves of steel, and the desire of not coming back to Earth via a video submission. Now they are being selected by audience for the next round. After passing two more rounds, a group of 28-40 people would be selected and will be trained for next 7 years for the Mars One mission. But this is not the end. The final team for the mission will then be selected based on audience poll. And this selection process will come to an end in 2015.

However, seeing the interest of people in Mars One mission, now the mission organizer has launched a crowd funding campaign in Indiegogo. This Indiegogo campaign will help the company jumpstart the first major step in its project – a private Mars Lander and Satellite mission in 2018. To materialize the mission, the company is trying to raise a fund of $400,000 by January 25, 2014 (11:59 pm PT) via Indiegogo. As of writing, the company has already collected $31,797 USD.

No doubt, the campaign gives people an opportunity to be a part of this historic Mars One project. You can donate from $10 to $25,000. The Mars One company hopes to set the first human colony on Mars in 2023. Here’s a promotional video of Mars One.
