Apple has always been hailed by users to be the safest OS compared to Windows and Linux. But it seems, the security of Mac OS systems was over-glorified. Digital security software maker Kaspersky Lab’s CEO believes that Apple is ’10 years’ behind Microsoft on security. After the widespread Flashback malware attack on Mac devices recently, users should take notice.

Eugene Kaspersky, CEO and co-founder of Kaspersky Lab, said, ““I think [Apple] are ten years behind Microsoft in terms of security.” According to Kaspersky, Mac and Windows systems are not that different from a security point of view. Mac systems were always vulnerable to malwares similar to Windows systems. It was just that Mac didn’t have the huge user base like Windows, and hackers (and crackers) were ignoring it like an ‘underdog’. But, as Mac systems are gaining popularity to the masses as well as corporate users, it lured the goons with its success.

“Apple is now entering the same world as Microsoft has been in for more than 10 years: updates, security patches and so on,” Kaspersky told CBR.

From the user reaction at different websites on Kaspersky’s comments about Mac security, it seems that many are acknowledging the fact but some proud Mac users are too proud to submit.

My advice to those would be, “Don’t be naïve.” Do you think I am being too aggressive?
