There are two new members joining the Sony Ericsson Xperia family. The Sony Ericsson’s new models are Xperia Ray and Xperia Active. These two smartphones is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This announced has made at CommunicAsia 2011 in Singapore, are expected to ship in third quarter to select markets worldwide. The pricing and U.S. availability were not revealed at this time and offer two different areas of focus.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is a handset aimed at those with an active lifestyle. It features a dust-proof and water-resistant design with a 3-inch, 320×480-pixel Reality Display that works even if there’s water on the screen or if your fingers are wet. The phone can even monitor your heart rate and pulse, the built-in ANT+ wireless technology, and comes with other extras like preloaded sports apps and accessories, such as an arm case. This phone is powered by a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture, Bluetooth, and GPS.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is a little more high-end with its sleek design and advanced camera. The smartphone boasts an aluminum chassis that measures just 9.4mm thick and comes in four different colors: black, gold, white, and pink. It also has a 3.3-inch, 854×480-pixel Reality Display with the Mobile Bravia Engine, which brings such advantages as noise reduction, sharpness, color management, and contrast enhancement. The Xperia Ray also packs an 8.1-megapixel camera with a Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor and other advanced camera options like 16x digital zoom, aperture f/2.4, face detection/recognition, smile detection, and can capture 720p HD video.
The other feature’s of the smartphone like set is pretty standard, with full wireless options (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, aGPS) and support for the North American 3G bands. Sony Ericsson also introduced two new accessories: the LiveDock multimedia dock and the LiveSound headphones. All are expected to be available in the third quarter of the year.
