Adobe Will Finally Bring Flash Video Streaming to iOS

Adobe has finally come up with a solution to the Flash dilemma once and for all with their latest version of Flash. At the National Association of Broadcasters trade show in Las Vegas, Adobe recently previewed the latest version of Flash that incorporates HTTP live streaming. With this new version of Flash, iOS devices will finally be able to display Flash video without the need to install any additional software on their devices.

There is also an app browser for iOS devices which do plays Flash Video content on iOS devices called Skyfire, but now Adobe will bring Flash video content without need of any additional software to the device, As Skyfire is available for $2.99.

As we continue to evolve this technology we will be adding support for another format, HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). HLS is an MPEG2 transport stream (container) used by devices such as the Apple iPad 2. By adding support for HLS within the Flash Media Server, Adobe is reducing the publishing complexity for broadcasters who need to reach browsers supporting HLS through HTML5 (such as Safari) or devices where Adobe Flash is not installed. Where Flash is installed, Flash Media Server packages the stream using MPEG4-fragments (F4F) to deliver video over HTTP to Flash.

There is no ETA of this new Flash software, but now playing Flash video on iOS devices won’t be a big pain, Adobe will stream you video in format that your device is capable of playing.

Here is the Demo of Flash Video content playing on iPad 2:
