iPhone 5 Chip Names Revealed By Sources

A lot of rumors have been doing rounds regarding Apple’s next flagship smartphone, iPhone 5. In fact, some have gone so far as to claim that the next iPhone will be called the new iPhone. Now, it is being reported that 9to5mac that certain sources have revealed the CPU and GPU names of the chips that are to be used in the next iPhone.

According to the new divulged by these anonymous sources, Samsung’s 5L8950X ARM CPU will be used in the new iPhone. It is further being claimed that Apple is calling this chip an A5 part, which shows that we may not see a whole load of different in the processing powers of iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

That is all we know about the name of the CPU. Moreover, the GPU that is being used on the system-on-chip CPU/GPU system is being called SGX543RC. Again, this is all that has been revealed by the source regarding the name of the GPU and the information, in itself, is quite useless and insignificant.

First, it’s not confirmed and may eventually turn out to be just a rumor. And secondly, these numbers don’t really mean much. In light of the CPU and GPU names in case of past iPad and iPhone models, it may be possible to foresee what power may the new iPhone pack but then again, we haven’t been told even the full names of the CPU/GPU in iPhone 5.

However, based on this rather limited information, it is possible that Apple goes forth with a dual-core CPU coupled with quad-core GPU to juice up the graphics.
