New Build Of iOS 5.1.1 Released For iPhone 4 Now Supported By Rocky Racoon Untether

We recently reported that after weeks of hard work and collaboration, Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team were able to release version 2 of the popular jailbreaking tool, Absinthe. This new version works with the latest firmware released by Apple on iOS devices, namely iOS 5.1.1. However, Apple has since released a new iOS 5.1.1 build for iPhone 4.

Normally, when Apple decides to ship out a new build of its firmware, if an iOS user upgrades to that new build, his jailbreak becomes void and he must wait for a new tool which can accomplish jailbreak on the new build.

But in this case, Apple has shipped out a new build solely for its iPhone 4. While it is not yet clear what the update may do, it may render your jailbreak null and void if you, by accident, have installed it.

However, there is no need to panic since the folks behind Rocky Racoon have now shipped a new version of this jailbreaking tool. The version is termed 1.0-2 and it can enable you to convert the tethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4 into an untethered jailbreak. According to the release notes of this new version, “As there are now two versions of iOS, both called “5.1.1’ for iPhone 4 GSM, 1.0-2 was released to support both.”

An untethered jailbreak means that you wouldn’t have to externally reboot your every time to jailbreak it, rather the jailbreak will remain intact no matter how many times you restart the device. You can get Rocky Racoon version 1.0-2 from Cydia.
