Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D Will Get Update to Remove Carrier IQ

According to Android Central Sprint is keeping the promise made last December to remove carrier iQ from its range of devices and the new update available for HTC EVO 3D will deliver not only security fixes but also wipes out the infamous Carrier IQ codes. Tech investigators did some thorough checking through the smartphone’s software and discovered that “HTC IQAgent” and “IQRD,” codes that were part of Carrier IQ are now gone.

HTC confirmed the situation “HTC can confirm that we’re working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January.” Sprint encouraged its OEMs to come up with updates to serve the same purpose, and consequently more devices are expected to follow.

Technology websites hinted a few weeks ago that Sprint stopped collecting data from all the smartphones on its networks. However, it would be unrealistically to assume that Sprint would really remove all Carrier IQ codes from all 15 devices bought by the carrier’s subscribers, which means about 26 million devices currently on the market.
