One of the true shape-shifting gadgets, Asus Padfone, hasn’t yet hit the shelves. Needless to say, a lot of users are eager to at least give it a try but the not-so-good news are that Asus has now announced that due to a shortage of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chips, the launch of the device in a number of markets will be delayed.
The launch of Asus Padfone was scheduled to happen by the end of April in Taiwan and by the end of May in Italy. However, apparently the launch has been delayed now.
The reason is that the device makes use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4. And currently, these chips are running short, making the vendors who are using them run into troubles. Inevitably, Asus has to delay the launch of its device. This was recently revealed by a tweet from Asus Indonesia, in which it is being said that Qualcomm is currently experiencing Snapdragon S4 shortages and unfortunately, that is the processor being used in Padfone.
An Asus official further commented on the situation as, ‘”I believe [the shortage is] affecting all of Qualcomm’s customers.’ Whether or not the shortage is affecting other Qualcomm clients, it most certainly has delayed the launch of Asus Padfone. And the more delayed it gets, the lesser are the Padfone’s chance of becoming a hit with the users.
