User Launches Class Action Lawsuit Against Instagram

Instagram recently attracted the ire of a huge portion of its users when it decided to trample all over their privacy rights and announced that it can make use of their content in all ways commercial. An Instagram user has now launched a class action lawsuit against Facebook, who owns Instagram.

The change in its terms of service which Instagram rolled out last week have left the users annoyed and angry. As long as Instagram had been on its own, the company had been fairly understanding of the user’s needs and respected its user’s privacy.

But since Facebook now owns Instagram, it is only understandable that the social network wants to turn Instagram into a cash cow, disregarding the concerns of the users. It is precisely to this end that the changes in service terms were made.

The users, as a result, were furious and the entire social media was abuzz with calls to boycott the service which is probably what led Instagram to backtrack many of these changes. However, the new terms of service still say “that we may not always identify paid services, sponsored content, or commercial communications as such.”

Apparently based his concerns on this, an Instagram user from California has now launched a class action lawsuit against Facebook. The user has sought the services of the law firm Finkelstein & Krinsk to launch the lawsuit.

The filing of the case goes on to state the many violation of user rights that Instagram has indulged in and then states, “In short, Instagram declares that ‘possession is nine-tenths of the law and if you don’t like it, you can’t stop us.”
