Google has rolled out an update for the Gmail web app for mobile devices as well as its offline app for Chrome users. The update has much to do with the looks, which the company has made neater, simpler and less cluttered.
The updated Gmail mobile Web app will be available to Android, BlackBerry, iOS as well as Kindle Fire users. Apparently, the motivation behind this app upgrade was the December update of the iOS app, as a result of which, the users told the company they ‘like the redesigned UI, along with new features such as improved search and integration with Google Calendar.’
Google has cited that as somewhat of an inspiration for the new update. The company says that many of the changes liked by the iOS users have been incorporated in the mobile Web app for Gmail, bringing the same features to users across multiple mobile platforms. You can check the new, updated app by browsing to gmail.com on your mobile device.
The interesting part is that the company made no mention of the Windows Phone users in the announcement. This is not surprising, given the fact that the relationship between Google and Microsoft aren’t exactly amicable at this point. Of course, Google can always excuse itself by saying that Windows Phone is a smaller platform, compared to others such as iOS and Android.
The company has also announced that a number of changes have been made to the Gmail Offline app for Chrome. However, the updated app isn’t yet available in the Chrome Web Store. Once it is made available by the company, we would be sure to notify you of the changes, if any, made in it.
