Anonymous Hacks Stratfor, Leaks Over 90,000 Credit Cards

In the latest move by Anonymous, the well-known hacktivist group which has been involved in a number of recent hacks, it has hacked the website of Stratfor and defaced it. Stratfor provides strategic intelligence for political, economic, security and business purposes. As of now, the official website is down for maintenance.

According to some sources, this attack was part of the #AntiSec movement that works to foil the profit-led motives of IT security companies. A mirror of the hack is available here. According to this mirror, an earlier corresponded between Stratfor members and Anonymous hackers took place in which the Stratfor member stated that he was confident Anonymous can’t hack the system of Stratfor. The text posted on the hacked website was addressed Stratfor’s IT Manager Fracn Ginac. Not only was he jested at for his poor understanding systems’ security, the post also released his credit card number and other information towards the end.

The announcement by Anonymous stated that in hacking Stratfor’s systems, they have hacked about 90,000 credit cards of different people including journalists, intelligence community and white-hat hackers. According to the tweet of an Anonymous member SABU, these credit cards will be used to add over a million dollars to donations.

The hack was also used to post a book ‘The coming insurrection’ on the website. This book apparently is the philosophic base for Anonymous and its operations.
