Hacker Called ‘Godzilla’ Takes Down Multiple Pakistani Government Websites

Cyber skirmishes between Pakistani and Indian hackers are an ongoing affair. Hackers from both sides of the border usually keep trashing each others’ sites. This time, it is an Indian hacker named ‘Godzilla’ who has taken down multiple Pakistan government sites, alleging that the government supports terrorism.

Hacked site message

The hacker has taken down more than ten Pakistani government websites, which includes the portal for the Pakistani government. The portal was restored fairly quickly, although numerous other websites continue to be down. The websites which were targeted include those of the Ministry of Information Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Railways, Interior Ministry, Housing Ministry, Minorities Ministry, the Ministry of Economics Affairs Statistics and many other departments.

According to the hacker, “All network owned including switches because they deserve it, I have not touched any innocent website because target is only Government.”

Such users who try to access any of the hacked website are presented with a ‘PHProxy’ screen which displays a URL Error (113). Apparently, the hacker was able to break into Pakistani government’s centralized IBM server. This was accomplished with the help of a Layer 2-3 Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module for IBM eServer, BladeCenter.

The hacker than connected up these servers with local machines, which were then used to bypass security measures using a proxy server.
