Australian Billionaire Clive Palmer Plans To Build Titanic II

We have seen the blockbuster movie Titanic from James Cameron which tried to rejuvenate the memories of its tragic history. We have seen efforts to unleash the mysteries surround the ship. But no one planned to re-build the ship, till now. Queensland billionaire Clive Palmer has announced that he plans to build a world class luxury ship, Titanic II, a full-size replica of the drowned Titanic. His company Blue Star Line Pty Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build Titanic II. The ship Titanic II will be made full of 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems.

Last 15 April, we have observed the 100 years of Titanic’s tragic accident. The wreckage of the ship, buried under deep sea, is slowly disappearing. But, enthusiasts should not be disheartened, because billionaire Clive Palmer has decided to make Titanic II. Unlike the original Titanic, which was built in Northern Ireland, Titanic II is going to be built in China. If everything goes perfect, then Titanic II is supposed to set sail in 2016.

Titanic II will be designed as a modern ship with all the technology to ensure that the history doesn’t repeat. A historical research team has been engaged to design the Titanic II. It will be 270 metres long (885 feet), 53 metres high and weighs approximate 40,000 tonnes, same as its predecessor. It will be comprised of gymnasiums and swimming pools, libraries, high class restaurants, luxury cabins, 840 rooms, 9 decks, an exhibition room, a bulbous bow for greater fuel efficiency and diesel generation, an enlarged rudder and bow thrusters for improved maneuverability. The exhibition room will be located in the space of the original’s coal boilers. Instead of using coal power, it will use diesel to run. The diesel-powered ship will contain four smoke stacks. No doubt, the technology that will be used to build the voyage is 100 years improved. Rebuilding the Titanic is a tribute to the spirit of the men and women who constructed the original Titanic. The cost has not been estimated yet. The Titanic II is the first of four luxury cruise ships Palmer has commissioned CSC Jinling Shipyard to build.

“The Chinese are renowned for building commercial cargo and container ships,” Mr Palmer said. “China currently produces around two to three percent of the world’s luxury ships but is looking to challenge the Europeans who have around 75 percent of this market. It is going to be designed so it won’t sink. Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it.”

The Chinese navy has been invited to escort the Titanic II on its maiden voyage across the northern hemisphere from England to New York.

To be noted that, Clive Palmer is Australia’s fifth (AUS $5 Billion) richest man. He owns the Sunshine Coast’s Coolum Golf and Spa Resort, and the Gold Coast’s Robina Woods and Colonial golf courses. He is going to participate the next federal election in Queensland.
