NASA’s space shuttles Discovery and Enterprise have already settled into their new homes. Now, its time for another space shuttle to settle down – Endeavour. NASA plans to send its space shuttle Endeavour to its permanent home – California Science Center. Endeavour will start its journey for home on September 17.

NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour’s final destination is California Science Center in Los Angeles. The space shuttle will start its journey on Monday, September 17, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), California, riding on NASA’s modified 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA). On last Friday, (September 7) NASA revealed Endeavour’s flight plan.

NASA bequeathed the title and ownership of Endeavour to the California Science Center in Los Angeles last year on October 11. Under one of the terms of Space Act Agreement between NASA and California Science Center, NASA will safely transport Endeavour to LAX. After a short trip next Monday the SCA, carrying Endeavour, will stay at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center till Tuesday. On Wednesday, it will take off from Ellington Field and after a short trip, the SCA along with Endeavour will land Dryden at mid-day and pass the night. The next morning, on September 20, the two air crafts will take off from Dryden and will head towards LAX.

Along with Endeavour, the SCA will fly about 1,500 feet above ground. Endeavour will fly over Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, San Francisco and Sacramento. Around at 11 a.m. PDT on September 20, the two air crafts will land at LAX. However, depending on weather condition and operational constraints, the flight path and timing may change.

Antonio Villaraigosa, the mayor of Los Angeles, said, “Los Angeles is a world-class city that deserves an out of this world attraction like the Endeavour. We welcome the shuttle with open arms.”
