Popular micro-blogging site Twitter has over 140 million active users as of 2012. It is handling over 340 millions tweets and over 1.6 billion search queries per day. But Twitter management is not content with the number, they are hungry for more. Recently Twitter’s Vice President Satya Patel has declared that they want to acquire 2 billion users though he have not mentioned a specific time frame. Before acquiring 2 billion users Twitter want to achieve 200 million active users by August 2012.

Posterous is simple blogging platform and very user friendly which was formed in 2008 and is based in San Francisco. It allows users to post their blogs just through emails. Recently, Twitter acquired Posterous to expand on its business even further. According to VentureBeat, Posterous is supported by Y Combinator, Redpoint Ventures, and Trinity Ventures and through this has also been able to raise $15 million as of September 2011.

According to Mashable, the doctors at Houston’s Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital managed to create a medical and social media history when they live-tweeted an entire open-heart surgery for the first time ever.

Twitter has openly and publically accepted its guilt and crime of copying entire address books of users from their mobile phones and stored the gathered information on its servers. Most of the users did not even realize that this invasion of privacy was happening to their personal information. When users log on to their Twitter app on mobiles and click ‘Find Friends’, it is then that their contact details are being saved up onto an external server unbeknownst to them.
