Google Working On A Unified Gaming Platform Which May Arrive Next Year

Google has invested itself deeply into Google+. Whereas the momentum of G+ hasn’t been extra-ordinary and has rather slowed down in recent times, with other social networks such as Pinterest gaining rapid traction, Google is still willing to push G+ more. During the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Google+ product manager said that by next year ‘we will be talking about Google games’ rather than games from Google’s different platforms. This clearly indicates that Google is working on a unified gaming platform.

According to Google+ product manager, Punit Soni, right now Google provides gaming experiences to the users through a number of platforms. These include Google+ Games, Chrome Web Store Games, Games for native Client and Android games. But, according to Soni, all this is going to be changed ‘by the next year.’ What Puni suggested was very meaningful. In his words, ‘we will be talking about Google games’ by next year. But it is still unclear how is Google going to achieve a unified gaming platform.

Soni further stated that the search engine has been very diligent on it’s social network, Google+ and has been working to refine it ever since the launch. According to him, Google will be bringing together the Chrome’s Native client tech, Hangouts and notifications which promote games to friends. From this, it would seem that Google will not only unify all it’s gaming platforms, but will also center it all around Google+, the social network Google is working to push against Facebook.

Recently, a number of gaming platforms have launched independently, after achieving an in-network success. For instance, Zynga is breaking free of Facebook and launching a gaming platform of it’s own. Google is perhaps eyeing their success and now plans to establish a unified platform of it’s own so as to make Google+ a popular gaming hub. Whether or not these plans will be brought to fruition remains a matter of time.
