Ethical iPhone Activists Brought The Petition Signed By 250,000 People To Apple Stores

SumofUS and Change.org managed to raise interest about dubious work practices in Apple supply chain and almost a quarter million people signed a petition urging Apple to act appropriately. The activists brought boxes filled with signatures to Apple’s Grand Central Terminal flagship store in Manhattan in the hope that Apple officials will be able to put pressure on the company’s Asian suppliers to improve working conditions and to respect similar standards as the US.

Also, the foreign suppliers particular the ones in China are advised to have a transparent approach about the relation with employers and to allow audits to check the quality of work environment.

A short while ago the scandal broke over the media both online and offline, revealing the working condition of Chinese employees who are handling the production of iPhones. Some workers died of exhaustion after forty hours shifts, while others lose the use of their arms and also Apple partners don’t hesitate to employ children in the factories. In response, one Apple representative declared that the Cupertino based company does not encourages such practices. “We insist that our suppliers provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and use environmentally responsible manufacturing processes wherever Apple products are made. Our suppliers must live up to these requirements if they want to keep doing business with Apple,” said Apple official.
