Apple’s new MacBook Pro with Retina display is making a lot of waves in the tech world – and while most of the feedback is eulogizing the new notebook, here is a bit of news which may not be very welcome by prospective Retina MacBook Pro buyers. The news is that if you purchase the Retina display MacBook Pro and want its battery replaced, it is going to cost you 54% more than when replacing a MacBook Air battery.
The reason for this hike in price is that MacBook Pro with Retina display comes with a battery which is so strongly stuck to the case of the notebook that an Apple user can’t replace it on his own. Naturally, if he runs into battery issues, he will have to ship it to Apple or hand it at one of the company’s outlets to have the battery replaced. And this is going to cost him a cool $199.
In comparison, the price of having a MacBook Air battery replaced by Apple costs $129. While the difference may seem a little unfair, the fact is that the Retina MacBook Pro battery is far more powerful than that of MacBook Air. A 13-inch MacBook Air battery comes at 50 Watts-hour whereas that of the Retina MacBook Pro is significantly better at 95 Watts-hour.
Also, probably you won’t need to change your Retina MacBook Pro battery any time soon if Apple’s word is to be taken – which is that you can charge your Retina MacBook Pro for roughly 1,000 times before the battery’s capacity actually slips to 80%. This essentially means that you can tool the notebook for years without having to worry about battery replacement.
