Apple has been trying to sideline Google’s influence in iOS devices. A solid step by Apple to this end was the introduction of its own maps in iOS 6. However, Google is the long-time king of the mapping domain and obviously, isn’t going to give up so easily. This was manifest in the words of Google SVP who has now stated that ‘amazing Google Maps experience’ is soon coming to iOS devices.
This statement from Google clearly shows that the search giant is not ready to back out of the race yet and is all set to up the ante on mapping service with its Google Maps.
Jeff Huber is the Senior Vice President, Commerce & Local at Google. Writing on his Google+ page, Huber stated that Google is committed to ‘providing amazing Google Maps experience on iOS.’
Even when Apple is trying to push forth its own maps in iOS 6, Google Maps have a strong following among iOS users. And it was precisely because of this that when Apple replaced them in iOS 6, iOS users started demanding the release of a standalone iOS Maps app.
Google seems focused on continuing with its HTML5 Web app for some time. The company is probably will update 3D Maps in Google Earth without launching separate iOS app yet. However, that is what iOS users are craving for after iOS 6 and that’s what Google should furnish as soon as possible.
We can expect Google to unveil a number of Google Maps-related development at its I/O event which only a few days from now.
