It is not a problem really to get a new number for your phone. All you need to do is pop a new SIM into your device and there, you have a new number. However, what is rather intriguing is that now you can get a new number for your phone even without requiring a new SIM with the help of MyAKA.
MyAKA is a new service which is currently available only to U.S. users. With the help of this service, users can sign up for a new mobile numbers in their local area code. This way, users can carry two mobile numbers on a single device with a single SIM.
According to the president and CEO of MyAKA, John Skorich, “We protect users’ real number on incoming and outgoing calls and enable features such as do not disturb and contact blocking – and unblocking – via text message. No apps or downloads are required, and we also offer a free 7-day trial for users to evaluate whether they have a need for the service.”
The uses for such a second phone number are many. There are many instances when a user would rather not reveal his original phone number. In such cases, a second phone number acquired through MyAKA can come in quite handy. Moreover, you can virtually perform all the functions on this second phone number, functions such as sending text messages and making calls.
Skorick further says, “We have a wide range of customers from online dating to professionals such as hairdressers and attorneys. The do-not-disturb feature is especially popular with professionals, as it allows them to essentially turn the number off without having to turn their phone off in the event of a family emergency. Naturally, the privacy aspect is the most important piece for all demographics.”
How does MyAKA work?
According to Skorick, “In order to support this function we assign a unique number – ten digits with a 720 area code – to every MyAKA contact. A contact is then deemed a ‘MyAKA Contact’ by the user in two different ways.”
“In this case, they simply text the other person’s number to their MyAKA number and the system instantly responds with a 720 for that contact. In either case, the MyAKA user saves this 720 number as the phone number for the contact and in doing so, calls/texts are routed through this number and their MyAKA number is displayed on the caller ID.”
Whereas you can initially try your hands for a 7-day trial, you will eventually be charged $29.99 per month for 500 texts and/or minutes. That may sound a tad bit too costly to many users. But then, guarding your privacy in today’s digital era costs much.
