Amazon Unveils 8.9-Inch Kindle Fire HD Starting From $299

After a lot of anticipation, Amazon has finally announced new Kindle Fire line. Among them is the 8.9-inch tablet that Amazon unveiled at its event today which has finally puts the online retailer into the mainstream tablet business.

New HD Kindle Fire

The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire packs an impressive 1920 x 1200 display which is juiced up with a Texas instruments OMAP 4470 processor. The device features 4G LTE connectivity and has stereo speakers which, it is being said, is the first ever in a tablet.

Also noticeable is the fact that the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire comes with two antennas for better Wi-Fi connectivity, opposed to a single antenna in the new iPad.

The 4G LTE models will be available in 32GB and 64 GB variations where the Wi-Fi model will be available for 16GB and 32GB variations. Under the hood too, Amazon has packed a far better OS for the tablet. The company has definitely been working on the OS it used in the first Kindle Fire.

The upgrades in the OS bring a plethora of new features to the users. For instance, with Whispersync technology, users can save the current state of their games and audiobooks and then resume from where they left at a later time. There is also the support for multiple accounts and improved parental controls, which would be a very welcome feature after the lack of sufficient parental controls that plague the original Kindle Fire.

The Wi-Fi only version starts with a price $299 while the 4G LTE version starts from $499 USD.
