Apple Warns Against Jailbreaking iOS In An Updated Knowledge Base Article

We recently covered the announcement and eventual release of the jailbreak tool, evasi0n. The tool essentially accomplishes untethered jailbreak on a range of iOS devices, including iPhone 5. Naturally, the practice doesn’t sit well with Apple who has now updated its Knowledge Base warning iOS users against it.

Evasi0n

Jailbreaking an iOS device essentially lets users run software and apps which are not authorized by Apple. In other words, users are able to wriggle free from the shackles of Apple’s closed ecosystem and enjoy access to a greater repository of content. And Apple doesn’t like that at all.

The company has now updated an article on its Knowledge Base, warning the users that jailbreaking an iOS device can lead to a whole range of issues. The company goes on to cite that it can lead to poor battery performance, a dire risk to user’s privacy and data and an unreliable voice and data service.

Apple also mentions that jailbreaking an iOS device is essentially a violation of the end-user license agreement and that it reserves the right to deny service to a jailbroken device. It must be noted, however, that jailbreaking an iOS device is not strictly illegal within U.S.

As always, Apple’s advice seems to fall on deaf ears as million line up to download evasi0n. We recently reported that within a day or so of its launch, evasi0n has already been downloaded more than 1.7 million times, a number that must have exceeded 2 million by now. So Apple can threaten and wail all that it wants, but such iOS users who don’t want to follow unfair rules will go on to jailbreak their iOS devices anyway.
