Microsoft has been putting curbs on running Flash websites in Internet Explorer 10. The move, the company had cited, was meant to save the users from getting a non-compatible site running on their touchscreen devices. However, Microsoft has now announced that it will be enabling Flash by default in Internet Explorer 10, starting from tomorrow.
It is interesting to note that here that Apple hasn’t furnished any support for Flash in iPad devices and Microsoft is probably trying to differentiate itself from that. Microsoft is going to enable Flash support in Internet Explorer 10, running in both Windows RT and Windows 8 machines, starting from March 12th.
The company stated in an official announcement that it thinks web developers have added sufficient support to Flash sites so that they can run fairly well on touchscreen devices.
The blog post by Microsoft reads, “As we have seen through testing over the past several months, the vast majority of sites with Flash content are now compatible with the Windows experience for touch, performance, and battery life.”
Microsoft goes on to give an impression that adding Flash support was always its intention since a mobile device with limitations on web surfing doesn’t fit it in with its philosophy. The company says in the post, “As a practical matter, the primary device you walk around with should give you access to all the Web content on the sites you rely on. Otherwise, the device is just a companion to a PC.”
Evidently, Microsoft has tried to hint towards the lack of Flash support in iPad in the last part of the above-quoted sentence. However, Apple has its reasons for not supporting Flash in tablets since Flash sites tend to fork out more battery power and may cause less-than-ideal user experience.
