Canonical is speeding up the progress on its Ubuntu Touch OS. The company unveiled the OS, meant for tablets, a few months ago and a developer preview arrived back in February. Now, Canonical has made the beta images of Ubuntu Touch available for testing, so that developers can dig into them and discern if there are any bugs.
The images are currently available on isotracker and currently, they can be run atop only four devices. These include Google Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. Developers can load the images on any of these devices and then report the results of their installations. Of course, you can’t expect the images to provide you a great replacement for Android since they are only test images.
If you want to install the images, you can read the detailed installation instructions here. Once you have the image installed on your device, you can run them and if you find any bugs, you can report them directly at isotracker.
These are the first raring based images of Ubuntu Touch. However, the Canonical team has promised that once all the problems are sorted in these images, it will dish out more images on a daily basis so that the developers can test-run them and help the team filter out the bugs from the OS.
