Micro-blogging site Twitter launched its #music service in April of this year. This mobile application service has enabled people to discover music based on the activity of the people and bands they follow. But now it’s been reported that Twitter is planning to kill that #music service.
The Twitter #music app is categorized into 4 areas: Popular, Emerging, Suggested, and Now Playing. It gives people the option to listen and also purchase songs within the app. However, since the launch, the music app have been available on iOS. But six months ago when Twitter launched the #music service, the company mentioned that #music app will “arrive on Android soon.” After then Twitter engaged itself revamping its music department. But multiple sources familiar with the matter lately have reported that the app’s fate is about to end.
It’s unclear why Twitter is planning to kill the #music app, but most likely the reason for killing the app is when #music app was launched, it reached the no. 6 slot in overall free app downloads, but in the following months, it slipped quickly. At the end of August, app analytics company Onavo placed Twitter #Music at 1,672 place in its own rankings and another analytics service AppAnnie ranked Twitter #Music at 264 in the iTunes Music app as of yesterday.
This clearly states that the app has seen “abysmal” numbers both in iTunes App Store downloads and engagement. However, when Twitter was contacted to say something about the matter, it declined to comment.
