Korean pop artist Psy has touched another milestone. His Gangnam Style dance track has smashed the records to become the first video to reach one billion views in YouTube.
The video was posted on YouTube in July. Since then the video has broken a number of records. the video has been viewed at least 1 million times in approximately 75 countries. This track brought worldwide fame to Psy, who was already popular in Korea.
The star fan following of Gangnam Style has alos boosted its popularity. Even US president Barack Obama had shaken his legs to the dance track. The track has also inspired a number of flash mob dances and parody clips.
The song has also been very successful on the business side. It has generated $8.1 million in business deals. More than 600,000 people have clicked on the songs iTunes link to buy the track.
YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca said, “PSY’s success is a great testament to the universal appeal of catchy music– and er, great equine dance moves.”
