Barnes & Noble Cuts NOOK Prices, Effective From Today

Barnes & Noble has announced the “lowest price ever” for NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color e-readers and tablets. The new price was announced on Sunday, and will be effective from today. The price cut comes “just in time for the back to school season.”

The new price schedule from Barnes & Noble is as follows.

  • NOOK Color is now available for $149 instead of $169.
  • NOOK Tablet-8GB model price is slashed to $179 from the previous price of $199.
  • NOOK Tablet-16GB is available for $199; the biggest discount with a $50 price cut from previous $249.

The new price is effective at all of Barnes & Noble’s online and offline stores nationwide, and through the other retailers.

The new prices seem to be standing head-to-head with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Nexus 7-8GB; both selling for $199. Barnes & Noble has been struggling to compete with Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle and Google Nexus 7 for market share.
