Porn Becomes Harder To Find Through Google Images

You may stumble across adult content at times while using Google search, even when you are not looking for it. Google has decided to beef up its search algorithm so that these incidents don’t happen when you’re using Google Image search The search giant has tweaked its image search algorithms to make it harder to find porn in Google Images.

Adult content

Google has explicitly stated that it has no intents of censoring the porn. Rather, the company wants to make sure that only if a person is searching for porn does he get to find it. According to a Google spokesperson, “We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for — but we aim not to show sexually explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them. We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query.”

In other words, if you are searching for porn on Google Images, you will have to be explicit about it. The spokesperson further says, “If you’re looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting — you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in Web search.”

This certainly sounds good to most who would rather get images more relevant to their queries than high-ranked adult content. However, its a fine line between censorship and relevant content that Google has decided to tread.

And the implications are already manifesting themselves. Users at social media sites are complaining that they are unable to access porn on Google Images even when they explicitly ask for it. In fact, according to one user, even turning off the SafeSearch doesn’t yield porn-related search results. The search giant needs to make sure that it doesn’t end up depriving the users from the very content they are looking for.
