Have you ever heard someone hiring a person who will slap the hirer to prevent him/her from wasting too much time on social networking sites or video sharing sites? I’m damn sure you’ve never heard. But for the first time you are going to hear this. San Francisco based blogger Maneesh Sethi has done that. Details inside.

Maneesh Sethi believes that it’s better to do something else rather than wasting time on social networking sites. But Sethi found himself wasting too much time on Facebook,YouTube and Reddit. He wanted to stay away from wasting too much time on these sites but he couldn’t restrain himself. So to prevent him from wasting time on Facebook, YouTube, Reddit or something else, Sethi posted an ad mentioning he’s looking for someone who will work next to him and slap him whenever he’s wasting time on a social network. And for that work, he’ll pay $8 (£5) per hour. Here is Maneesh Sethi’s full advertisement on Craigslist for slapper :

Hey!

I’m looking for someone who can work next to me at a defined location (my house or a mission cafe) and will make sure to watch what is happening on my screen. When I am wasting time, you’ll have to yell at me or if need be, slap me.

You can do your own work at the same time. Looking for help asap, in mission, near 16th mission BART.

Compensation: $8/hour, and you can do your own work from your computer at the same time.

Within the first hour after the ad published, Sethi received about 20 emails. Out of those 20 people, Sethi chose Kara. See how Kara slaps when she finds Sethi wasting too much time on Facebook, YouTube and Reddit.

But why Sethi did that?  Well, Sethi used an app called RescueTime, which measures how much time you spend on each web site. And RescueTime showed that Sethi spent approximately 10 hours of his time on Reddit and 19 hours of his time on Facebook chat weekly. Sethi decided to spend less time on these sites and that’s why he adopted this different but innovative way. After Kara started slapping Sethi, his average productivity started to increase from 38% to 98% instantly.
