Use Google Street View In Matrix Style With ASCII Filter

Most of you must remember the cool ASCII style in which everything was seen in the world of ‘The Matrix’ movie. Such ASCII art was quite common back in the days but today, it has grown rather obsolete. But to give you a dose of nostalgia, a programmer has devised a new ASCII filter which lets you use the Google Street View coupled with ASCII art.

Imagine watching all the scenes on Google Street View in the form of ASCII code. That is precisely what this new ASCII filter accomplishes. This filter has been developed by Peter Nitsch who works at the Toronto marketing firm Teehan+Lax.

To create a true ASCII effect, Peter took an existing Google Street View Panorama library and coupled it with JavaScript 3D. He then made use of the WebGL to make you watch the Google Street View scenes as ASCII art. With the help of this filter, you can type in any destination and then sit back and view it in the ASCII symbols. However, you will require Firefox 8 or later, Chrome or any other WebGL compatible browser to view it.

In more than one ways, it really feels like straight from The Matrix movie. And while you feel like Neo, watching the world turn into a whirl of alphabets and symbols, it also brings back the nostalgic thoughts of the days when ASCII art was very popular. If you wish to check it out, head straight to the official website of the project.
